The International Maritime Institute of Nigeria (IMIN) has forged a strategic partnership with the AIG Maritime Police to enhance security in the Gulf of Guinea and promote the blue economy. This collaborative effort aims to leverage the expertise of both organizations to improve maritime security, promote sustainable development, and maximize the benefits derived from Nigeria’s maritime resources.

As part of the partnership, IMIN will provide training and workshops for maritime police personnel. This capacity-building initiative will equip the police with the necessary skills and knowledge to effectively secure the maritime domain. Rear Admiral Thaddeus C. Udofia, Director General of IMIN, emphasized the institute’s commitment to capacity building, stating that IMIN is dedicated to providing top-notch training to maritime stakeholders.

The AIG Maritime Police, Garba Yusuf Musa, assured the IMIN team of his command’s commitment to providing security coverage as a key form of collaboration. According to estimates, the region loses as much as $9.4 billion annually due to illegal fishing, mostly by China.
