Lagos Political, Legislative & Civic Engagement Office; Health District IV donate food items, supplements to pregnant women.

 

The Lagos State Office of Political, Legislative and Civic Engagement in collaboration with Lagos Health District IV has donated over three hundred food packs and vitamin supplements to mothers, infants and children under the Health District IV jurisdiction at the Akerele Primary Healthcare Centre, Surulere.

This donation is in recognition of the fact that when women are pregnant, they need more of some vitamins and minerals to make sure the baby has healthy bones, and nervous system development.

It is noteworthy to know that eating a healthy, varied diets in pregnancy will help pregnant women get most of the vitamins and minerals they need.

The Special Adviser to the Governor of Lagos State, on Political Legislative and Civic Engagement, Dr. Afolabi Abiodun Tajudeem, represented by the Permanent Secretary, Office of Political Legislative and Civic Engagement, Eng. Sholabomi Mosunmola Shasore, noted that the Lagos State government recognized that to build a peaceful progressive, and secure Lagos, it is necessary to give every child from conception to birth and through adulthood, a fair chance to live and become responsible citizens.

She added that civically, responsible citizenship begins from the womb, saying that global studies affirm that the earliest events shaping a person’s life occur from conception to early childhood.

The PM noted that, the mother, infant and child development programme is a bold compassionate initiative conceptualised to boost neonatal brain development, support healthy pregnancies, and assist indigent expectant mothers within Lagos State.

The Special Adviser said since the inception of this initiative, the programme has reached Thousands of beneficiaries across the six health districts in Lagos State.

Also speaking, the Permanent Secretary Lagos State Health District IV, Dr Abimbola Bowale, represented by Dr. Sotunde Oludolapo, Director Medical Services and Disease Control Lagos State Health District IV said a promise of a healthier life starts from the newest members of the community and a commitment to the well-being of mothers, who are the backbone of families.

Dr. Sotunde Oludolapo quipped that the journey of a pregnancy is a remarkable one.

“It is a time of hope, anticipation and boundless love. It is also a time that demands immense strength, resilience, and the very best nourishment for both mother and child, and the journey can also be challenging.
