PSTT incorporates MWUN for more effective drive of mandate

The Port Standing Task Team {PSTT) on Tuesday co-opted the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) into its operations.

Moses Fadipe, National Coordinator of the team stated this yesterday at a meeting with executives of the union in Lagos.

Absorbing the union according to Fadipe, follows the request by the union to be part of the team for more efficient operations of the team.

PSTT is the body inaugurated to drive the contents of the Nigerian Ports Process Manual launched in December, 2020 by the Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo and announced the Nigerian Shippers’ Council as the lead agency to drive the manual.

But it commenced operation in 2021.
The team has as its references term, ensuring standard procedures are followed by concerned parties in carrying out transactions at the port.

The content of the manual is to engender a new order devoid of corruption and substandard practice in the nation’s maritime industry.

It was specifically to enable Nigeria improve its ranking on the global Corruption Perception Index (CPI).

At the meeting Fadipe who led members of the team to the secretariat of MWUN said, “My second request which is not a request per SE because in your response to my letter, you made it very clear why MWUN should be part of this task team

“And I am saying with effect from today, MWUN under the leadership of comrade Adeyanju has been brought into the Port Standing Task Team

“In the next 48 hours, we are going to send to your office, the letter confirming such status.”

Responding, the President General of MWUN,Comrade Adewale Adeyanju said it was an honour for the union to be absorbed to work alongside the team.

While thanking the team for the honour, Adeyanju pledged the unalloyed loyalty of the union to the team saying that being part of the team would further ensure sanity in the port operations.

“For this beautiful honour bestowed on the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria to be a member of the team, I want to thank you on behalf of the union

“The way and manner you addressed the union today shows that all of us are going to work together and bring sanity to the port and will let the president of dockworkers

“The task team is a team that will bring efficiency to the port operations and is going to help dockworkers to do better than before.”
