The Oyo State command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has nabbed ten suspects on offences relating to illegal mining in the state.
DSC Samuel Opebiyi, CDPRO,, NSCDC, Oyo State Command stated this in a statement on Tuesday.
He maintained that the arrests were parts of the efforts of the Defence Corps to curb activities of illegal mining in Oyo state.
According to him, the crack team of the NSCDC arrested the illegal miners and their conspirators at different locations in the state.
DSC Samuel stated that the suspects were paraded on Tuesday, 20th February, 2024, at the State Command’s headquarters in Ibadan.
Parading the suspects, the State Commandant CC Augustine Padonu, gave the names of the suspects as follows: Adeoti Kolawole, male, 61, Oyedijo Idowu, male, 19, Muritala Ismailia, male, 39, Mohammed Muritala, male, 40, Ayuba ismaila, male, 33, Sunday Ayoola, male, 49, Adeleke Sunday, male, 42, Olamide Ajibola, male, 34, Adeyemo Abbas, male, 39 and Numideen Aliu, male, 35 years.
Commandant Padonu stated that Adeoti Kolawole, the leader of a group of suspects carrying out illegal exploration and mining of Tourmaline minerals; Oyedijo Idowu, a generator repairer; Muritala, a labourer and Ayuba Ismaila, a labourer were arrested on the 17th February, 2024 at about 08:00hrs for illegally exploring and mining solid minerals suspected to be Tourmaline without licence at Elese Erin village, Ona Ara Local Government, Oyo State.
In the same vein, the Commandant gave the name of Suspects dealing in illegal possession and purchase of Lithium minerals at Ipapo town, Itesiwaju local government Area of the state without license to purchase and to possess the products as Sunday Ayoola ‘M’ 49 (Owner of the product), Adeleke Sunday ’M’ 42 (Driver) Olamide Ajibola ‘M’ 34 (Driver), Adeyemo Abbas ‘M’ ( Driver) and Numideen Abbas ‘M’ 35 ( Driver).
The exhibit recovered are: Toyota Hiace with registration number MNV 811 YN, Toyota Hiace with registration number LSD 136 XG, others are; Mazda E2200 with registration number KRD 495 XF and Mazda E2200 with registration number LSD 321 XN , also recovered are two big generators used for illegal mining, Tiger GC3800 CXS and Yamaha Generator 7000 DXE. The mineral resources found in the buses are Lithium mineral and Tourmaline.
Commandant Augustine Padonu enjoined the good citizens of the state to always furnish the corps or the sister agencies with good information whenever they notice any illegal activities in their vicinity as all the suspects paraded will be arraigned in the court of law after the conclusion of the investigation.
