Hunger: Senator Eshinlokun distributes over 10,000 bags of rice to constituents

...says President Tinubu is determined to alleviate suffering of Nigerians.

 

…Pastor Gbenga Oyebode calls on influential Nigerians to emulate gesture.

Constituents of Lagos West Senatorial District including Market men and women, artisans, widows, people with disabilities, the less privileged in the barracks, religious bodies were on Monday, beneficiaries of the rice palliatives initiative of the Senator representing the Senatorial constituency, Senator Wasiu Eshinlokun Sanni

The senator distributed over ten thousand bags of 10kg bags of rice ostensibly to cushion the effect of the biting hunger in the country.

Speaking during the distribution, the senator who acknowledged the pains people are going through in the country, appealed for calm saying that the president, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu is on top of the game to make life better for Nigerians.

His words, “It gives me great joy to welcome you, today, to the flag off the distribution of rice palliatives to our people in the Lagos Central Senatorial district. It is no gainsaying that Nigerians are going through hard times, occasioned by important and very necessary steps being taken by the Federal Government to rescue the Nigerian economy from collapse. No doubt, those steps have fostered hardship on the people hence an urgent need for intervention.

“It is heartwarming to note that our father and leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is aware and very concerned about the situation. More importantly, he and his government are determined to alleviate this suffering of Nigerians as quickly as possible.

“However, in the meantime, they are rolling out palliatives, and encouraging even State governments to tow the same line, while making efforts to increase food production within a short time. We in the National Assembly are solidly behind him in this respect.

“It is this fatherly concern of our President that led to what many of my constituents will be enjoying today: presentation of rice to the people in Lagos Central. Please note that this gesture has been planned to touch the nook and cranny of my Senatorial district; and to those that actually deserve it.

“The interest of market men and women, artisans, widows, people with disabilities, the less privileged in our barracks, religious bodies, every ward in the district have been factored into the distribution matrix, such that all will have a sense of belonging.”

Reflecting on his achievements since assuming office as the Senator representing the district, pointed out some of the areas where he has impacted on the constituents.

“Within a month of assuming office, I unveiled my Social Pact with my constituents, in a booklet titled: My Legislative Agenda, detailing my hopes and aspirations for Lagos Central Senatorial district, at the appreciation party I held to thank all those that contributed to the realisation of my ambition to becoming a Senator.

“Thereafter, I distributed sallah rams to all our political and traditional leaders in the district; and also championed and mobilized my colleagues in the Senate to facilitate an expeditious consideration of the ministerial nominees from our State.

“In August, 2023, after my appointment as the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Marine Transport, as well as, member of many other Committees, I distributed free GCE forms for many indigent students in my district. Same month, I took part in the meeting where Lekki communities, in conjunction with Nigeria Conservation Centre (NCC) sought government intervention to protect their environment against degradation; and has since started working to sensitise the National Assembly and government to focus on addressing the problem.”

Also speaking, pastor Gbenga Oyebode, Senatorial District Officer for Senator Eshinlokun Sanni, Lagos Central said that the gesture was not expected to bring a total end to the suffering of the people but stated that it would go a long way to soothe their pains.

He added that such gesture should trickle down to the people at the grassroots as well as others who the palliatives are actually meant for.

Quoting the scripture, he said that those that give to people lend to God even as he called on other influential Nigerians to tow the line by giving to the less privilege which he said would lighten the present hunger in the country

He said, “The program is to support people in terms of food shortage that we have in the country. To support both the federal and state governments in terms of the stakeholders that we have in the Lagos central Senatorial District

“We have members of the party, we have artisans, community leaders, landlords and tenants associations, religious groups, community development associations,.people with disabilities, market women nd men and the senator has deemed it fit to give 10kg of over thousand bags.”
