Afenifere National Youth Council on Thursday honoured Ondo state governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu with an Award of Excellence on security for the South West for the year 2021.
Festus Adeusi, Head, Media Unity, Office of the SSG stated this in a release made available to monarchsnews.com
Presenting the award, Prince Barr. Eniola Ojajunni, President of ANYC said that the award was hinged on the Governor’s outstanding performance on security, humanitarian services, infrastructural and rapid Youth development and other numerous contributions to the Yorubas both in Nigeria and in the Diaspora.
Ojajunni said, “At the NEC meeting of the Afenifere National Youth Council, the Apex Yoruba Youth Organization in Yorubaland held on February 5th, 2022, after due consultations with the general council and other members of the Southwest in the council found the Governor worthy to be the best governor in South West for year 2021.
He further said that it was one of the resolves of the Council to identify and reward leaders, sons and daughters of Yoruba land who have distinguished themselves and found worthy to represent the core values of Yoruba Nation.
According to the President of the Council, ANYC is a platform created to build the capacity of youths, promote, collaborate and exchange ideas amongst Southwest youths.
It is a platform aimed at strengthening solidarity and ensuring support for the youths’ participation in politics.
The Youth Council which was led by the National President has seven other officers drawn across the Southwest States and three members from Ondo State to present the award to Mr Governor.
Responding, the Secretary to the State Government ( SSG) Princess Oladunni Odu who represented the Governor at the event in her office, stated without mincing words that, “Arakunrin deserves every award bestowed on him saying he is very outspoken, active and assertive because he believes that he has a social contract with the people of Ondo State” .
Odu, who revealed that despite the election petition instituted at the tribunal by the PDP Governorship candidate against the re- election of Arakunrin for second term in office, the governor went ahead to pronounce that all Fulani herders in the state must register with the State Government adding that the Governor believed he owed the people of the State the duty to protect them and that nothing could stop him from doing exactly that.
This, according to the SSG, shows the love the Governor has for the people in the State because he has swore an oath to protect lives and properties of the people of the State.
Her word, “Mr Governor holds on tenaciously to that oath and this has led to the creation of Amotekun Security Network… while others were backsliding, Arakunrin came out openly saying whatever everybody wanted to do, he is going on with the creation of Amotekun to protect his people”
Princess Odu who described Akeredolu as a rare and uncommon man, added that his achievement is not only on Security but other notable areas like Education sector where the Governor has transformed the basic education in the State.
The infrastructural development of the state and his giant stride at improving the health sector despite the financial cash crunch affecting the country are highly noteworthy and commendable.
She therefore thanked ANYC for the award and admonished them to remain focus and always and remember their visions and follow the missions positively for the betterment of the people.
