The Association of Licensed Maritime Academies of Nigeria (ALMAN) has assured the Nigerian Navy (NN), the Nigeria Police (NP), and the Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) of closer ties.
This is contained in a press release signed by the Secretary General, Dr. Musa Akinyemi, tagged: New Year Commitment, made available to our correspondent.
According to the statement, the association stated that it is a new dawn with Nigerian Navy, the Police and NIMASA.
Explaining, ALMAN said the new beginning with the three agencies is because they play similar roles in sustaining the nation’s maritime status and health.
ALMAN, Dr. Akinyemi said, was a highly-responsible organised private sector-led initiative to harmonize the standards, quality, and integrity of maritime education and training in Nigeria with inclusivity.
“Such an association and its patriotic leadership would never have aimed to witch-hunt or castigate anyone, let alone its critical stakeholders, especially the Navy, Police and NIMASA.
“The three bodies here under focus have come a long way with the necessary records and virgin grounds that ALMAN should commend and explore to foster an excellent camaraderie.”
This, the Secretary-General further explained that the synergy would pave the way and engender a robust and sustainable maritime domain for the active players who had dreamt of when the nation would harness all her maritime possibilities.
According to Akinyemi, “Today, that dream is now a reality with the birth of the Marine and Blue Economy as an independent Federal Ministry. ALMAN won’t want to stand aloof any longer,” he had reiterated.
He added that “We are better prepared and would be more delighted to openly submit our Position Paper to the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, H. E. Adegboyega Oyetola, CON; pay a courtesy visit to the Chief of Naval Staff; have an Audience with the Inspector-General of Police; and have a dialogue with the Director-General of NIMASA.
“It is high time we got it right producing qualified and competent off-shore professionals and on-shore graduates per the succession plan, to rejig and rebound the industry to the twenty-first century glory, thus making Nigeria a global maritime destination,” the ALMAN scribe submitted.
