Western port police arrests clearing agent for unlawful possession of firearms, ammunition.

The Ports Authority Police, Western Command has arrested a suspected importer of small arms and light weapons into the country.
In a release by ASP Isaac Hundeyin, Public Relations Officer (PRO), Ports Authority Police, Western Command, Apapa, Lagos, the move was to enhance port security and prevent illegal arms supply into the country.
Text of the release “On 11/03/2025, at about 1815 hrs, officers of Roro Port Division received a credible intelligence report that while stevedores were offloading an overtime container at the action free trade terminal, one Biodun Ojo ‘m’, a clearing agent tactfully removed one Remington express rifle, one Rugar impact 22 can rifle, 42 live cartridges, one English pistol one round of 9mm live ammunition, and 10 rounds of 9.9mm live ammunition from the container being stripped and threw the weapons into a septic tank in a bid to conceal the smuggled weapons.
“Upon swiftly arriving the scene, the suspect was arrested by the police, and all weapons were recovered, while the command remains on the trail of the importer and other conspirators within and outside the command’s area of responsibility.
“While investigation continues, CP Ibrahim Balarabe Maikaba psc (+) assures that the command under his watch would not be a transit point for gun runners. He further encouraged ports users, unions, critical stakeholders and the general public to continue to share credible intelligence with the command to ensure national security is upheld, trade fraud is stamped out while creating an enabling environment for trade facilitation and attracting more foreign investment to the country.”
