The 100% Compliance team of the National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) said it suspended the planned protest against AP Moller Terminal (APMT), earlier slated for 13th June, 2023.
The National Coordinator of the team, Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko said that the protest was suspended due to intelligence that some hoodlums have been hired to disrupt the planned peaceful process.
The National Coordinator stated this in a statement he personally signed and made available to our correspondent on Tuesday.
Tanko added that the team was able to get the information through intelligence network.
He said, “The 100% compliance Team wish to appraise freight forwarders and concerned professionals on the reasons for aborting the planned protest scheduled to take place today 13th June, 2023.
“But thanks to our intelligence network, an army of hoodlums had been hired to disrupt our operations and hijack the peaceful protest.
“We also gathered that APM TERMINALS have planted saboteurs for the same purpose.
“We know that some high officials have been giving millions of Naira to scuttle our plans. But we are not perturbed, neither are we intimidated.”
The team had accused the terminal of poor services, outright sabotage of the Nigerian economy which elicited the now suspended protest.
“The deplorable condition of their examination bay and horrible scanning operations are some of the reasons for our planned protest.
“Having been to the examination bay to see things for himself, the Customs Area Comptroller, Apapa, being a conscientious administrator and having the aforementioned intelligence at his disposal, appealed to us to step down the peaceful action.
“Thank God he believed us and has now summoned the APM management for consultations.
“The commissioner of Police, Western ports Command also concurred with the above and similarly appealed for calm.
“He has also invited us to a meeting tomorrow 14th June for a dialogue while commending us for our maturity.
“He went to the terminal to see things for himself.
“Other security agencies, including the port security officer have also keyed into dialogue mode with us.
“In the tight of the above, we had to suspend the planned peaceful protest.
“Note; it is only a suspension, we stand ready to mobilize our members if we don’t notice an appreciable improvement in the examination bay, and improved scanning operations.
“| Ibrahim Tanko will never disappoint you as we fight to improve services in our work environment.
“We appeal to all stakeholders and sister associations who support us to remain calm and vigilant as our cause is noble, for our good and that of country,” he submitted.
