Comrade Oniha emerges substantive SG of MWUN as Dagogo, Ekwere become Seamen, NPA scribes

The Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) in Friday, confirmed Comrade Oniha Erazua as the substantive Secretary General of the union after six months in acting capacity.
In a statement by Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN, Olangwe Dagogo and Joseph Ekwere also emerged as the General Secretaries of both the Seamen and NPA branches.
According to the statement, the confirmation took place at the 13th August, 2025 during a joint session of both the National Administrative Council (NAC) and the Central Working Committee (CWC) of the Maritime apex union.
Comrade Oniha rose through the ranks as Assistant Secretary General (ASG) before he was promoted to a Deputy Secretary General (DSG) of Training, Research, Education, and Media before his present designation, after the retirement of his predecessor, Comrade Felix Akingboye in 2025.
The Edo State born Scribe of the Union holds a Master’s Degree from the prestigious premier University of Ibadan; and has had classroom stint as a tutor before taking appointment with the Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria.
Olangwe Fred Dagogo, a former Organising Secretary, now holds the position of a General Secretary of the Seamen & Water Transport Branch of the Union.
Comrade Dagogo is a graduate of Mechanical Engineering from the University of Port. Harcourt.
Also, comrade Joseph Ekwere’s appointment was confirmed as General Secretary of the Nigeria Ports Authority (NPA) Branch of the Union.
He rose from the position of Computer Secretary, a position he held diligently for the maximum period under the Seamen & Water Transport Branch before his present designation.
Ekwere holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Lagos. The three scribes have since been congratulated by the Union.
