The Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNOWTSSA) has announced decision to shelve its planned industrial action against Atlantas Crew Management (ACM).

The decision follows peaceful agreement reached by both parties.

Recall that Monarchs News had reported that the union threatened Industrial actions against the shipping company for failure to respond to several calls for negotiation of workers’ welfare.

The Trade Union Congress (TUC) affiliate union had rejected the disparity in payment of Nigerian Seafarers and their foreign counterparts in the vessel.

But in a recent statement, the union said it had rescinded it’s earlier decision to embark on a strike action even as it commended the management of the company for prompt action after the strike notification.

The union Scribe stated that the requests of the union from the company have been provided to the affected seafarers aboard their vessels adding that NMNOWTSSA and the company will continue to work in industrial harmony moving forward.

The letter of appreciation to management further applauded the company for the kind gesture for the fuel subsidy removal allowance for seafarers’ under its employment adding that”We wish such is extended to the leadership of our great association in one off term.”

“However, we are not unmindful of the global economy challenges that befall on both the private and public organizations. As partners in progress and peace loving association, we would like the management to look into our request during our meeting holistically and call for a meeting to harmonise the issue raised .

“Our great association appreciate your management for the listening ears granted to us. It is also worthy to express our gratitude to the management for the approved allowance for removal allowance of fuel subsidy. We want to use this medium to reiterate our earlier position that we are partners in progress and reassured your management of our unalloyed cooperation,” Comrade Aleakhue stated.
