Rally: Farinto visits Tincan, assures of women, youths' development in freight forwarding
The Acting National President of the Association of Nigerian Licensed Customs Agents (ANLCA), Dr. Kayode Collins Farinto who is contesting the office of the national president of the association, on Tuesday, promised to change the narratives in the association by giving women and youth a place of relevance, if elected into office.
Recall that the NECOM election earlier slated for July 5th, has been postponed by two weeks owing to prevailing circumstances in the association.
While addressing the audience after visits to both Tincan and PTML Customs bosses and stakeholders, he said that freight forwarding had taken the back seat for too long.
He however promised to redeem the image of the profession even as he maintained that the maritime industry needed to be separated from the humongous transportation ministry for it to achieve its potentials.
He added that freight agents deserved more than what obtained in the industry saying they are the ones generating revenues for the government and not the Nigeria Customs Service as erroneously believed
As a result, he said his government would lead the vanguard to seek for one percent remittance to the freight forwarders for all the revenue generated every year.
His words, “This profession is a profession I will like to bequeath to my son to take charge because if from zero level where I started, I can reach this level, it means it is a profession that we can bequeath to our children.
“If elected as president of ANLCA, we are going to have a profession that will be respected. We are the ones generating revenue, not Customs but because we are not respected in the society, the society has erroneous impression about us, that is 2hy we are consigned to the back seat.
“Going forward, it will never happen again like that.
“I was privileged to work with this present government when they were coming onboard, I gave them what they need and how maritime industry can move forward, I m happy it is being implemented to the letters
“One of them is that we need to bulkanise the Ministry of Transportation so that we can have the Ministry of Maritime Affairs, we need an SA to the president on maritime affairs
“The last time we had that was during President Jonathan’s era and we achieved a lot.
“If elected, our women will not be in the kitchen alone, you must also have licenses, we will empower our women in the area of licenses because our women are meticulous
“Our youths should stand up to their rights. The old order will not fade away except you stand up and claim your mandate
“If elected, I am going to create two offices that will be manned by the youths and we will also make sure that our youths on a yearly basis must have at least, ten licenses that will generate from your end,” he submitted.
