The Indigenous Shipowners’ Association (NISA) on Thursday, expressed hope in the ability of the incoming administration of Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu that it would boost the maritime industry

NISA believes that the government of Tinubu would protect against influx of foreigners from taking over the jobs of indigenous players.

The association added that it would move into its official secretariat before the end of May, 2023.

Otunba Sola Adewumi, the President of the association addressing press shortly after inauguration /swearing in ceremony of the new executives in Lagos, promised that the new executives would engage the administration for promotion of indigenous shipping stating that the industry has potentials of multi billion dollars business.

Speaking, he expressed readiness to engage aggrieved members to set aside their grievances to help move the association forward and to engage the government to revamp the fortune of the industry.

Otunba Adewumi said, “We wouldn’t want to put up an haphazard so if the event does not happen in 2023, it will take place in early 2024. We’ll institute a strong committee that will drive this project. As we all know, this event is fashioned after the OTC, we’ll come together to fashion how best to showcase the Nigerian maritime industry to the world.”

According to him, the association would move to its own acquired secretariat in Apapa before the end of May, 2023.

Earlier, the founding president of the association, Chief Isaac Jolapamo disclosed that there is so much work to be done but expressed confidence in the ability of the new executive to hit the ground running now that the baton of leadership has been handed to them.

His words, “Let us see some changes, we’ve been in this fight for so long without getting anywhere, your administration will bring about the realization of the reasons why the association was created in the first place.”
