Media outfit honours SSASCGOC Maritime president, Akinola for exemplary leadership, workers' welfare
President of the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC), Maritime Branch, Comrade Akinola Bodunde, has received an Exemplary Leadership Award in recognition of his contributions to workers’ welfare and union activities.
Bodunde, who was presented with the award on Wednesday in Lagos by Searchlight Communication Media and friends of the union, described the honour as a call to greater responsibility for him and his executives, stressing that workers’ welfare remains a top priority that cannot be compromised.
He commended the management of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA), led by Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, noting that the union would continue to partner the NPA in line with the agency’s mandate.
According to him, leadership is about sacrifice, hence the need to ensure that workers receive what is due to them.
He lauded union members for their immense support in fostering a robust, peaceful working environment to promote seamless port operations and industrial harmony.
Earlier, the publisher of Searchlight News, Olori Lola Adesokan, said the media had keenly observed the unionist’s track record, noting that “a golden fish has no place to hide.”
Adesokan added that two female members of the union also received distinguished awards in recognition of their leader’s sterling performance, and stated that the media would continue to celebrate those who have contributed to the growth of the Nigerian ports industry.
“Your leadership is defined not merely by the position you occupy, but by the people you inspire, the values you uphold, and the positive difference you make,” she said.
“Your commitment, courage, fairness, and unwavering dedication to the welfare and progress of your members have distinguished you as a leader who listens, engages, and leads with purpose. In appreciation of your exemplary leadership, selfless service, and enduring commitment to the growth of the SSASCGOC Maritime Branch,” she added.
