The operatives of the enforcement unit of the Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA), last week, apprehended a passenger boat with passengers without life jackets.
The boat which was loaded with 32 passengers, was apprehended In front of Bariga jetty as the captain claimed that they were going to a church around the area..
The 32 passengers include adults and children.
Confirmed by the General Manager of the agency, Mr. Damilola Emmanuel, LASWA vowed to always track down boat operators flouting the regulations of the waterways.
In a chat with a personnel of the agency, LASWA implored all passengers never to board a boat without wearing life jackets.
“Boat apprehended for carrying passengers without life jackets during a routine patrol by the Enforcement and Monitoring Unit.
“The Lagos State Waterways Authority (LASWA) will continue to fish out operators who go against the safety guidelines put in place by the authority to secure lives and property on the waterways.
“We also implore all passengers to NEVER board a boat without wearing a good life jacket properly, even if you think you are a good swimmer.
“A good life jacket ensures that you stay safe in case of a boat mishap on the waterways.
“Your lives are important to us, please follow ALL safety guidelines when traveling on water.”
