Junior Pope: Marine Police recovers 3 remaining bodies

The Marine Police unit of the Maritime Police Command has recovered the bodies of the three remaining victims of the Anambra boat mishap. Two of the bodies were recovered on Thursday 11th April, 2024 while the remaining one was washed ashore, the early hours of Friday 12th April,2024. The bodies have since been deposited in a Mortuary at Asaba.

It would be recalled that on Wednesday 10th April,2024 at about 1400hrs, a speed boat conveying about twelve movie actors en route Asaba to Onono, in Anambra state collided with a Fisherman wooden boat and capsized. The Marine Police was immediately dispatched to the scene on rescue mission and seven of the passengers on board were rescued alive and two dead bodies recovered same date.

The Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Maritime Police Command, AIG Olofu A. Rhoda commended the officers and men of the Marine Police Unit for their prompt action and dedication.

The AIG therefore advised boats operator, Boats Owners Association and waterways commuter to be safety conscious, avoid overloading, night travels and all other activities that are inimical to their safety and that of others while on voyage along the navigable waters. She advocated for the enforcement of the use of safety jackets and other safety apparatus while on board any boat.

The Maritime Police Command commiserate with the families of the deceased and pray the Lord will grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss, the AIG concluded.
