The International Association of World Peace Advocates (IAWPA), is a global peace advocacy group with Special Consultative Status under the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations (UN).
This prestigious appointment was in recognition of his contributions to community development and fostering peace at the grassroot levels.
Speaking shortly after the ceremony with newsmen, Dr. Iwegbuna who was overwhelmed with joy for the honour done on him remarked,”It is not easy for one to be singled out in a populous society like ours and be called to duty at this magnitude. It is not an easy feat to achieve. So, I feel so joyful. I am overwhelmed with joy, and I give God all the glory.”
He emphasized the importance of his new role in addressing the alarming rate of poverty in Nigeria, adding “In line with the theme of this program, which is the eradication of poverty, it means there is a lot of work to do. To me, it is a call to duty for the eradication of poverty.
Incidentally, we have just learned that millions of Nigerians live with multidimensional poverty. The rate of poverty in the land is alarming. The job is enormous, but for me, we must start somewhere. We must educate and try to change their mindset to align with sustainable development.”
Known for his deep connection to his community, the Eminent Peace Ambassador, highlighted his grassroots approach to development. “Everybody that knows me knows that I am a community man. I’m on the ground. I am not a high-flying individual who is far from his community. No, I don’t believe in flying overseas. I don’t believe in living overseas. I am a grassroots Ogidi man in Anambra State. I love my community, and I do a lot of things at the grassroots.”
Reacting to his vision the new role, the UNs Eminient Peace Ambassador said, “The call to do this job is a call to change the whole narrative of our system. It is a call to transform, to migrate from the old order to the new order, where everyone is developed, has a developed mindset, is developed educationally, is developed in business; in fact, is developed in any capacity that you can. And that’s why we are called today.”
His grassroots approach and dedication to sustainable development are expected to bring significant positive changes to his community and beyond.
