Eze Njoku, NDLEA appeal to Nigerian youths to shun the use of drugs

 

The Eze Ndigbo of Aigbaka Ejigbo, Eze (Ambassador) Nicholas Emenike Njoku, has called on Nigerian youths to refrain from drug abuse so as to enable them realize their potentials and contribute meaningfully to societal development.

Eze Njoku made the call during an event organized by a gospel musical artists Omotala Sax in collaboration with National Youth Council of Nigeria (Ejigbo Chapter) on Anti Drug Campaign for students and youths at the Ejigbo Mini stadium.

Advising youths to stay away from drugs, the Eze pointed out that it constitutes health hazards and destruction of human development as the effects of drug abuse on the younger generation was inimical to their development hence the need for paradigm shift to address the challenge.

He explained that the increasing addiction to hard drugs, especially methamphetamine, popularly known as crystal meth, glass and ice or Mkpurummiri in local parlance, by youths in Lagos has reached a worrisome stage and appealed to the youth to “Say No to Drugs.

“Drug abuse has reduced the productivity of young people,drug is a killer disease as it has killed so many dreams, aspiration and wealth of the youths, for you to be someone great in life, you must do away with drugs,if not you will become a liar and a thief,also you will loose your trust from among your friends and relatives.”

” I want to make this passionate appeal to shun the use of drugs, always listen yo your parents and teachers and ensure that every advice and information they would gathered today both from the resources personnel and representative of NDLEA should be put to practice,so as to better their future,” he submitted
While commending the organizers of the event for putting such an event,he urged the government to intensify more effort in the bid to eradicating the menace of drug abuse among the young ones.

Earlier, the converner of the event,Mrs Omotola Ekerin stated that the essence of organizing such event is the rate at which drug abuse is affecting and causing hazard among the young ones which is not encouraging.

Omotola Sax as she is fondly called went further to appeal to the youths to abstain from hard drugs as it is a killer and a cancer, which affects both our metal and social status.

“My message to the youths is to say no to drug abuse because it can damage and kill our life, our future and the plans of God for us. Parents and teachers have a lot to do by teaching this children what they are supposed to know so as to secure the future of their children and the unborn generation,” she maintained.

In the same vein, the Deputy Commander of Narcotics, Mrs Titilope while delivery her paper on the topic ” Say No to Drugs” noted with dismay that 60% of the young generation are into hard drugs and this have drastically reduce the lifespan of the youths and also destroy their plans for tomorrow.
Mrs Titilope called on parents to help in eradicating the issue of drug abuse by teaching the children the dangers in taking of hard drugs.
The event was attended by students from various schools, Local government Coordinator and Members of National Youth Council of Nigeria Ejigbo Chapter ably led by Comrade Akintunde Akinleye, representatives and top government officials also witnessed the celebration.
It is gathered that the annual event Anti Drug Campaign is an initiative to draw attention to young ones who are into taking hard drugs and effects surrounding the youths and to celebrate the potential of youths as partners in today’s global society.
