Barrister Daniah says Cybercrime Act, 2015 not targeted at professional journalists, educates on how to avoid pitfalls

A Lagos based Lawyer, Chief Abdullahi Tony Daniah on Tuesday, educated journalists on the actual import of the Cybercrime Act, 2015
Speaking to journalists, Chief Daniah maintained that the Act was enacted to provide unified legal, regulatory and institutional framework for the prohibition, detection, investigation and prosecution of cybercrime in Nigeria.
He added that the enactment of the law was not targeted at professional journalists.
The workshop was praised by Feedback Communications Company in conjunction with Maritime Media Executives with focus on Provisions and Implications of the Cybercrime Act 2015 as Amended
The erudite lawyer advised that journalists should not allow the euphoria of writing story online with their phones to engage in criminality
His words, “Be wary of your publications, justify your publications with evidence of voice recording, sign language, confirm your information before you publish
.
He further advised that there is nothing bad in apologising whenever a journalists discovers that his information is not true saying it does not diminish him in any form
“Apology does not make you a lesser person. When you are wrong, apologise and retract especially if the information is wrong.”
He examined that Cybercrime involves criminal use of digital technology for cyber bullying, cyber stalking or circulation of false information.
