The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has handed over a suspected ritualist, Obi Levi Obieze, to the Lagos State Police Command. Obieze, who was wanted by the Nigeria Police Force for alleged involvement in kidnapping and ritual killings, was arrested by NIS operatives at the Gbaji checkpoint along Badagry-Seme Road while attempting to flee the country on a motorcycle.
The suspect, a native doctor from Umuojor village in Isiagu Community, Enugu State, was linked to the abduction of a 13-year-old girl who was later rescued by police from a shrine connected to him. The NIS confirmed Obieze’s identity through a National Identity Management Commission enrollment slip found in his possession, and he reportedly admitted to the alleged crimes during initial questioning.
The NIS’s swift action in arresting Obieze and handing him over to the police demonstrates the agency’s commitment to collaborating with other law enforcement agencies to bring suspects to justice. The police are now working to further investigate and prosecute Obieze for his alleged crimes.
This development highlights the importance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling crime and ensuring public safety. The NIS and police are working together to ensure that suspects like Obieze are apprehended and brought to justice, providing a sense of security and reassurance to the public.
The case also raises concerns about the prevalence of ritual killings and kidnappings in the country, and the need for continued efforts to address these issues. The authorities must remain vigilant and proactive in identifying and prosecuting individuals involved in such crimes, while also working to prevent them through community engagement and education.
