Shipping branch of MWUN elects Comrade Abass, Otikpere as President, Vice

The Shipping Clearing and Forwarding Agencies Branch of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on Monday, elected Comrade Abass Oluyinka as the new President of the branch succeeding Comrade Ekpeyong Etim Ekpeyong who held sway for right years.

Comrade Rosemary Otikpere former women leader of the branch, emerged as the new Vice President.

The election took place at the 6th Branch Quadrennial Delegates Conference (BDC), which was held at the national secretariat of MWUN in Lagos.

The newly elected President was elected unopposed, as well as other executives.

Others elected to run the affairs of the union for the next four years are:

Vice President: Rosemary Otikpere

Treasurer: Philip Mukoro

Trustee: Williams Boniface

Trustee: Ubah Ugochukwu

Auditor: Fowowe Michael

Special Female Member: Pat Eyonsa Paloma

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected President called on members of the branch to embrace unity and work together to build a stronger shipping branch.

Abass expressed delight over the peaceful conduct of the election and urged members to collaborate with the new leadership to make progress and successfully meet the challenges ahead.

He admonished members to shun any form of disrespectful behavior and stressed the importance of maintaining unity within the branch.

According to him, “We need all your support to achieve the tasks ahead. With your support, we will achieve greatness.”

Abass also assured members from the outstations that the branch executives will ensure continuous engagement on operational activities in those areas.

The newly elected President affirmed that accessibility will be the executives’ watchword.

The President-General of MWUN, Comrade Francis Bunu, along with his executives, witnessed the election.
