Seafarers Day: Comrade Bunu celebrates seafarers, urges government to address their challenges.

A Deputy President General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu Abi has described Seafarers as unsung heroes.
He gve the description while congratulating Nigeria seafarers on Tuesday on the occasion of the year 2024 World Seafarers Day
Bunu who is the immediate past former President of the seamen branch of MWUN, stated that the World Seafarers Day is a day of reminiscence for the mariners
He added that the seafarers deserve the accolades because they are responsible for carriage of more than 80 percent volume of the world trade.
“Seafarers are vital in ensuring a seamless flow of essential goods that eventually make it into markets, homes, and onto our tables. Without them, the world would not be able to transport the large quantities of commodities that societies require to survive.
According to him, “Seafarers are the unsung heroes of our nation’s economy, he described them as the lifeblood of Nigeria’s trade, they sacrifice a lot for citizens existence as they leave their families for months for our sake.”
He urged the authorities to celebrate their resilience, dedication, and the invaluable role they play in our our nation and also address the myriads of problems facing seafarers rather than paying lip service year after year during Seafarers Day.
“As we celebrate this year’s Seafarers Day, let us remember that crews face challenges on multiple fronts, including an ongoing threat to life in the Red Sea as work together to achieve this theme, “Navigating the future, safety first,” he said.
