NATIONWIDE STRIKE: SSASCFA To Halt Shipping Operations On Tuesday Over Ajaero Assault.

 

The Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing and Forwarding Agencies (SSASCFA) has reiterated commitment to embark on a nationwide strike on Tuesday, 14th of November, 2023, saying that all logistics and shipping related activities will be fully paralyzed .

Following the resolution reached during the Joint National Executive Council (NEC) of Tuesday, 7th of November, 2023 by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) orchestrated by the beastly and gruesome assault on the NLC President – Comrade Joe Ajaero, SSASCFA declared that the nationwide indefinite strike action would affect operational activities from the shipping sub sector of the nation’s maritime industry.

According to a statement from the President General, SSASCFA Comrade Harrison Ugochukwu Asonye over the weekend, the union will embark on the Industrial action as mandated by the Trade Union Congress (TUC) to ensure full compliance.

In solidarity support over the brutalization of the President, Nigeria Labour Congress and other unionists by the Imo State Government and Police Force , Asonye stated that SSASCFA will comply with the directive to withdraw it services .

The President General stated that as a responsible union, SSASCFA is committed to taking all necessary steps to minimize any adverse effects on customers, partners, and the overall business operations within maritime industry .

He said “We will keep you updated on developments related to the strike action and any potential changes to the start date or duration.

“We remain hopeful for an amicable resolution to the issues raised by the NLC and TUC, and we are committed to working together to ensure the continued success and stability of our dear industry / sector.

“Your understanding and support during this challenging period are greatly appreciated.

NOTIFICATION OF PROPOSED INDEFINITE STRIKE ACTION BY THE TRADE UNION CONGRESS OF NIGERIA (TUC) AND THE NIGERIA LABOUR CONGRESS (NLC)
Fraternal greetings from the President General – Comrade Harrison Ugochukwu ASONYE and all the National Administrative / National Executive Council members of the Association.
Following the resolution reached during the JOINT NEC – IN SESSION of Tuesday, 7th of November, 2023 by the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) and Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) orchestrated by the beastly and gruesome assault on the NLC President – Comrade Joe AJAERO by the Imo State Governor – Mr. Hope UZODINMA, his goons and the Nigeria Police, we are formally notifying you of the Nationwide indefinite strike action by all the affiliates of the two the Labour Centres (TUC & NLC), commencing on Tuesday, 14th of November, 2023.
As you are aware, Senior Staff Association of Shipping, Clearing and Forwarding Agencies (SSASCFA) is an affiliate of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria. Suffice to say that, we have been mandated by this resolution to ensure full compliance.

To this end, you are once again notified that ALL LOGISTICS AND SHIPPING ACTIVITIES WILL BE FULLY PARALYZED. THERE WILL BE NO SHIPPING AND LOGISTICS RELATED ACTIVITIES WITHIN THE SHIPPING INDUSTRY AND MARITIME SECTOR.

The strike action will encompass various industries and sectors of the economy, unions and affiliates etc as mentioned previously.
We fully acknowledge the potential impact of this strike action on our operations and business commitments. As a responsible union, we are committed to taking all necessary steps to minimize any adverse effects on our customers, partners, and the overall business operations within our industry / sector.
