As the world celebrates the 2023 father’s day, the Imole Oluwa Baptist Church, Ejigbo, Lagos literally rolled out drums to celebrate and honor fathers on a day dedicated to fathers and father figures.
Speaking at a special service to mark the occasion, the Minister-in-Charge, Rev Moses Oke in a message titled “Fathers as King under the King of kings” described fathers as representatives of God here on earth and for this reason need to assume the God-given responsibilities of moulding, guilding and providing for the family that has been given to them so as to have a blessed and happy family.
The cleric described a father as a King who speaks with authority and power that God has placed on him, stating that the fathers are decision makers at the helm of affairs, priests and shepherds of the family.
“You are kings because of the powers, positions God has placed you and properties placed under your care. As a father, you are a representative of God, a priest, and a king with authority therefore, as God cannot abandon His own, do not abandon your family because you will give account of whatever you did on earth,”
“I want to urge every father to assume the role God has placed in their hands, God wants to bless every home through the fathers but unfortunately, some fathers have lost that position as they abandoned their responsibilities to their wives and this is the reason why most children are wayward today,” he stated.
Rev. Oke advised that as kings, wives should respect and reverence the fathers as the head, appreciate their good works, and accept their decisions so as to have a happy and blessed home.
The President Men Missionary Union, Mr Ayantade said that the aim of this year’s celebration was to appreciate fathers who are rarely recognized and appreciated despite their numerous sacrifices, contributions and self denial of pleasure in order to provide for their immediate and extended families.
He urged wives to see the father’s day as a reminder to express love, gratitude and admiration for their parental role in the family.
Lending his voice, one of the church elders, Elder Ezekiel Onilude described fathers as pillars of the family whom God have bequeathed the responsibility of moulding lives.
According to him, the fathers occupy a very important position in the family, therefore they should be accorded respect as kings, even as he encouraged the fathers not to relent but to be alive to their responsibilities despite the increasing economic pressure on the family.
Highlights of the event were songs ministration, choreography, drama presentation and special prayers for the fathers.
