ITF women celebrate IWD, urge women to support one another, work as one team at workplace.

In commemoration of the International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration, the Nigerian chapter of the International Transport Workers’ Federation (ITF) has called on women to be supporters of themselves at work place
The call was made in view of thr perceived ignominy among women at workplace.
Speaking, with journalists at the sideline of the event, the Chair person of the Chapter, Sister Victoria Nwaokolo stressed the need for women to support one another to grow in their workplace.
The chairperson called on the women to always work as team in order to be able to occupy suitable positions
Her words, “My message to the women is to love one another because we have failed to spread the love amongst ourselves.”
“We need to support ourselves and stand together as one towards achieving set goals.”
The event was with the theme: Inspire Inclusion which she said was aimed at encouraging women to take up responsibilities and rise up to challenges.
Also speaking, the,father of the day at the event, Engr. Bob Yousou stated that the IWD’s theme was in consonance with priority theme, “Accelerating the achievement of Gender Equality and the empowerment of all Women and Girls” for United Nations (UN) 68th Commission on the status of Women (CSW 68) ,saying it examines pathways to greater economic inclusion for Women and Girls everywhere
Yousou who doubles as the National President of Nigerian Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association ( NMNOWTSSA) said, “Your presence here today, to this all important epoch making event truly demonstrated your solidarity and your testimony on Women as Essential Workers within the Transport industry whose contribution has enormously ensured development, boost productivity and drive milestone progress in Transport economy of the World Trade.
“There is no force more powerful than women determining to rise hence the slogan “No Women no Nation” our Gender our strength, train the woman you train a nation and beside every successful man there is a woman of substance.
“In view of the above quote, it is pertinent we inspire inclusion by encouraging every one of us to recognize the unique contributions of women from all walks of human endeavour, most especially those from the marginalized communities as we celebrate them today. We should also applaud all they have achieved in the fight for equality, it is not a gain saying to state unequivocally that our Women and Girls over the years had performed credibly well and made great giant strides, dismantle stereotypes, discomfited and dismantle barriers, thereby recording and driving progress towards a more just egalitarian society. In recognition to this, Nigeria government has ratified C190.
“Today I urge host of people globally to celebrate the unalloyed passion, astuteness, indefatigable zeal of women to excel even in the face of gender discrimination and biases. I specially thank you for all your contributions, doggedness and encouragement.
“At this junction, I want to heartily appreciate everyone present for your kind gesture, giving me audience out of your precious time and busy scheduled. I also seize this medium on behalf of our women to appreciate you for honouring our invite and for the moral and financial support that made this event a success. ”
On his part, the President General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Adewale Adeyanju expressed satisfaction over the attendance of women from the six affiliate groups.
Adeyanju who was represented at the event by the Vice President General MWUN, Comrade Chris Idagbonre ,urged women to always carry their genders along, mostly as it affects the working environment.
He also urged the women to inspire others of the same gender in all ramifications saying that training and retraining of the women is key to a successful career
The six affiliate unions that make up the ITS Women Committee include, Nigeria Merchant Navy Officers and Water Transport Senior Staff Association (NMNOWTSSA); Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN)
Others are: Nigeria Union of Railway Workers (NUR); National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Association of Nigerian Aviation Professionals (ANAP)..
