MWUN lauds PTML for payment of retirement benefits to 84 disengaged dockworkers.

 

The leadership of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has lauded the management of Port an Terminal Multipurpose Limited (PTML) for paying the retirement benefits of 84 aged dockworkers

The President General of the union, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju appreciated the terminal operators for the initiative to pay the aged workers and the families of the deceased ones.

Comrade John Kennedy Ikemefuna, Head of Media, MWUN, stated this in a press statement made available to oir correspondent on Thursday..

Represented at the event by Vice President General (VPG) Bello Abubakir, Adeyanju urged other terminal operators to emulate the gesture.

Adeyanju who doubles as.the first Deputy President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, praised the management of PTML for taking such laudable bold step by putting smiles on the faces of both the aged retirees and the family of the deceased who got the entitlements of their departed beloved ones.

The beneficiaries of the retirement benefits include 74 disengaged living aged dockworkers and 10.dead workers who were.paid through their next of kins.

Also.on ground to monitor the exercise is Comrade Ibrahim Ohize, President, Dockworkers Branch of the MWUN and other officials of the Union.

Prince Adeyanju noted that since inception of the terminal, this is the very first time that PTML will be applying the minimum salary standard (NJIC) to the fullest, even surpassing what was recommended in the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) for the payment of Dockworkers retirees in its Terminal and it’s worthy of emulation by other terminals who have not done theirs and advised that they should follow suite.
