The National Association of Government Approved Freight Forwarders (NAGAFF) has formally lodged a complaint with Maersk Nigeria Limited regarding the non-reflection of Bill of Lading numbers on refund account statements.

This issue has been a recurring concern among NAGAFF members, who find it challenging to identify which refunds have been processed due to the absence of these crucial details.

In a letter addressed to Maersk Nigeria’s Customer Experience Manager, Chief Afam Chukwuma, Deputy National President (Seaport) of NAGAFF, highlighted the importance of including Bill of Lading numbers in the narrative of refund statements.

He emphasized that this practice is standard among other shipping companies and is essential for transparency and accountability.

Chief Chukwuma urged Maersk Nigeria to address this anomaly urgently, noting that the current situation complicates the refund verification process for freight forwarders.

He acknowledged that the issue might stem from the bank’s end but insisted that Maersk, as the payer, should ensure clear payment instructions are communicated to their bank.

NAGAFF has therefore warned that if the issue persists, further complaints from its members will be escalated, adding that the association is committed to ensuring that its members receive the necessary support and transparency in their financial transactions with shipping companies.
