MWUN elections: Ajayi emerges president of NPA branch, warns elected officers against absenteeism from workplace

The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) branch of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on Monday, 30th June, 2025 elected Comrade Ajayi Alex as the new president of the branch in a consensus election that held at the union secretariat in Lagos.

 

Ajayi alongside other executives were elected unopposed at the 6th Branch Quadrennial Delegates Conference to lead the branch in the next four years

 

Comrade Ajayi who is the immediate past Treasurer of the branch was elected alongside the following executives: Com. Adamu Bemjamin, Vice President,

Com. Fagbemi Olakunle Kolawole Treasurer, Com. Adjaho  Peter, Trustee, Com. Alabi Lawrence Trustee,

 

Others are: Com. Babatunde Waheed Abolore Auditor,  Com. Oku Ngozi Mercy Branch women Rep.

 

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected resident of NPA branch, Comrade Ajayi Alex while appreciating the delegates and the leaders of the union told elected executives not to use their union positions as excuses to be absent from their workplaces.

 

He also promised  not to do the bidding of his members saying he would not disappoint them.

 

According to him, he and his executives would work with other branches executives to move the union forward.

“We are going to work with the opportunity and not disappoint you. We will try and put smiles on the faces of NPA workers.

 

“We are ready to work with other executives.

 

“I want to appreciate the management of NPA for what they have been doing through Dantsoho. He is a grassroots man, he knows what to do at the right time.

 

“I want more for the workers through the collaboration with the PG.

 

“9I appreciate the PG for the successful conduct of the elections.

 

“I also want to appreciate Comrade Adeyanju for the good foundation he laid that we are all enjoying today. Adeyanju has elevated MWUN to high position in the globe.”
