MACN/CBi seeks to further its advocacy to more stakeholders in 2024

The Convention on Business Integrity (CBi) in partnership with the maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) has plans to expand its activities in 2024 for a more formidable strategic partnership towards building a more accountable, efficient and transparent Maritime industry in the west Africa sub region.

The group, which has been at the fore front of encouraging ports stakeholders in the adoption of transparent ports operation using the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) and Nigerian Ports Process Manual (NPPM) in the Nigerian Maritime sector, seeks to further its advocacy to more stakeholders in the new year.

Recall that the non-governmental agency has engendered a lot of innovative measures to counter illegality in the ports in Nigeria.

In collaboration with the Port Standing Task Team, the group berthed the idea of joint boarding of vessels, joint examination for quick turnaround time at both the quay and cargo sides.

In further helping to improve transparency in ports, the group initiated the idea of Port Call Assist, and online port calls assistance App where cases of illegalities are reported and promptly attended to.

Transparency International Corruption index reveals that Nigeria scored 25 out of 100 points in the 2023 Corruption Perception Index, compared to 24 points in the year 2022 CPI, while Nigeria ranks 145 out of 180 countries, compared to 150 on 2022 CPI results.

In 2017, CBi, the local partner of the global Maritime Anti-Corruption Network (MACN) trained over 1,000 port officials after which a survey attested to the fact that the deliverables were useful and have an impact on reducing corruption in the ports.
