Lagod State Health District 4 has joined its counterparts across Nigeria to observe the National Immunisation Days as health workers will move to homes, worship centres and other public places to vaccinate eligible children against the dreaded disease.

 

Michael Oputeh, Public Affairs Officer, Lagos State Health District iv stated this in a release made unlic.on Sunday.

 

According to the press release, the district will commence the exercise in four local Government and five Local Council Development Areas in Lagos State.

 

The Permanent Secretary, Health District four, Dr. Abimbola Bowale stated that health workers would move across the various communities in Lagos Island LG, Apapa LG, Mainland LG, Surulere LG and Lagos Island East LCDA, Apapa Iganmu LCDA, Yaba LCDA, Itiru Ikate LCDA and Coker Aguda LCDA, Worship Centers, Schools, Markets, and other public places ensuring that every eligible child is vaccinated.

 

The effort is in commemoration of the National immunization Plus Days in collaboration with the National Primary Healthcare Development Agency and key partners,

 

 

Full text of the release, “The permanent Secretary, Health District four, Dr. Abimbola Bowale said the immunization aims to vaccinate all children aged 0-5 years with two drops of the oral polio vaccine adding that the immunization is necessary to prevent a setback in our laudable achievement if the virus is not properly curtailed and it is important to maintain the Lagos State polio – free status.

 

“The permanent secretary mentioned that Nigeria achieved a free wild polio virus certification in August 2020.

 

“The permanent Secretary, Lagos State Health District iv, Dr. Abimbola Bowala emphasized the importance of the campaign in halting the transmission of the circulating variant poliovirus and protecting every child under the age of five from the dangers of polio meningitis, a condition that can lead to permanent disability or even death.

 

“He explained further, that throughout the immunization period, dedicated healthcare workers in health district iv will move across various communities in Lagos island LG, Apapa LG, Mainland LG, Surulere LG and Lagos Island East LCDA, Apapa Iganmu LCDA, Yaba LCDA, Itiru Ikate LCDA and Coker Aguda LCDA, Worship Centers, Schools, Markets, and other public places ensuring that every eligible child is vaccinated.

 

“Dr. Abimbola Bowale appealed to parents and caregivers to seize the opportunity to protect their children, highlighting that immunization not only shields the individual child but also fortifies the health and immunity of the wider community.

 

“The permanent secretary explore all the healthcare workers on leadership, coordination and technical support to improve the quality of the immunization campaign to ensure all eligible children are vaccinated.

 

“Dr. Abimbola stressing the importance of full coverage he noted that by safeguarding every child, the Lagos State Government was safeguarding the future of its people, while assuring that the vaccine are safe, free and highly effective.

 

“In the preparation for the exercise, a circular was issued where members of the social mobilization were briefed on their roles and responsibilities during the immunization period,” it concludes.
