Lagos CILT visits Railway boss, solicits assistance for secretariat renovation.

The Lagos branch of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) lamented the plans by handlers of the Nigeria Railway Corporation (NRC) to oust the Institute from the office where it uses as the secretariat at the NRC complex in Lagos.
The solicitors acting on behalf of the Corporation to recover all the debts owed it had written to Lagos CILT saying it is owing for the facility up to the tune of N6 million.
Narrating the matter to the Managing Director of the NRC, Engr. Fidet Okhiria, Chairman of the Lagos branch, Mallam Bashir Ambi quipped that the Institute could not afford to pay such humongous sum adding that they have been using the facility for a long time.
Ambi, who is an Assistant Director with the Nigerian Shippers’ Council, asked for urgent intervention of the NRC boss to avoid being thrown out of the secretariat.
Highlighting the challenges before the NRC boss, the CILT boss further appealed to management of the railway corporation to also assist with the renovation of the secretariat adding that NRC is a major player in CILT activities.
He also described the Okhira administration as game changer in terms of technological advancement adding that the innovation in rail mode of transportation under his watch has brought comfort and convenience to passengers.
“We will like you to help us by instructing the barristers to stop writing the institute because we have no money and we have no where to go.
“We also request for management of NRC to assist CILT Lagos Branch by renovating out office within the premises of the corporation .
“We are optimistic that you will grant our request as a mentor to some of us ”’,Ambi added .
Responding, the NRC boss expressed shock over the letters written to CILT by yet to be identified agents and lawyers, which according to him, is unaware of any correspondence.
Okhira further assured the executives of the CILT of his prompt response on the matter while pledging to support the institute in its programmes .
The Lagos CILT boss expressed optimism that management of NRC would intervene abruptly to addressing challenges affecting the secretariat , calling on the Chief Executive Officer to graciously rescue the facility from any form of challenges.
