International Day of Peace: Oyo NSCDC resolves 250 disputes through ADR

...as Commandant dues for peaceful coexistence, dialogue, development.

The Commandant of the Oyo State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Michael Adaralewa has sued for peaceful coexistence among the different tribes in the country.

He admonished that the people of Oyo state and Nigeria at large should give peace a chance, do away with enmity, hatred, violence, war, kidnapping, murder, armed robbery and all vices in the communities and replace them with law and order, love, unity, security, dialogue, patience and development.

According to CDPRO, Oyindamola Okuneye, Commandant Adaralewa made the call at the 2023 edition of the International Day of Peace celebration organised by the Peace and Conflicts Resolution Unit of NSCDC of the command in Ibadan on Thursday.

He said, “Community conflict is inevitable when you work with diverse groups of people who have different needs, interests and perspectives

“Without peaceful coexistence there would not be any significant development in the community, State and the nation at large.

“Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo we are all children of the same mother, he stated further.”

Also speaking, the Head of Peace and Conflicts Resolution Unit of the Command, Assistant Commandant, Toriola Olanrewaju explained that the concept of peace involved understanding one another and working together to find solutions to problems.

He stated that the unit had settled over 250 cases from marital issues, land disputes, breach of agreement, chieftaincy disputes and market disputes just to mention a few with the help of Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR).

On his part, the Guest speaker, Comrade Abiodun Bangboye from Campaign for Democratic and Workers’ Rights (CDWR), admonished that there is need for everyone to live in peace, talk peace and display peace everywhere they find ourselves as a peaceful environment helps to build a developed nation.

Recall that one of the visions of the Commandant General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi OFR, MNI is for the Corps to be cautious in their roles in maintaining peace and conflict resolution in the country at large.

This year’s event of International Peace day have the representative of all ethnic groups, religious leaders and the stakeholders, some are Eze Ndigbo in the state, His Royal Highness, Eze Dr Alex Anozie Eze Ndigbo of Ibadan land, Alhaji Adeleke Lukman, representative of Aare Mogaji of Ibadan land, HRH, Lamidi Aliu Balogun, the Ohinoyi of Ibira Ibadan land, Alhaji Kabiru Sarki (representative of Seriki shasha), Alhaji Chief Bolanle, Ibadan Mogaji Omoteji, Reverend father Jerome Ajakaye, Director, Justice Development and Peace Commission, Ibadan, landlords chairmen of associations and other stakeholders on peace resolution.

International Peace Day (IPD) is observed all over the world every 21st of September. The UN secretary Antonio Guiberres declared this as a day devoted to strengthen the idea of peace through observing 24 hours of NON-VIOLENCE.
