Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, the President General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on Friday, gave the score card of his eight years as the helmsman of the union.
He adduced the colloidal peace and industrial harmony enjoyed within the period to roles of High Chief Orobosa Michael Ubogu, the Chief Executive Officer of Micura Services Limited.
According to Adeyanju whose tenure comes to an end this month, the Micura boss added values to his administration as well as being part of his successes.
Adeyanju described Ubogu as a professional stevedoring contractor who ensured that life is comfortable for Dockworkers which according to him, is a departure from the past
Explaining further, Adeyanju who doubles as the first Deputy Resident of the Nigeria Labour Congress said that Ubogu adopted a team spirit which ensures that all workers are carried along hence engendering peace and trust between the workers, union and their employers.
According to Adeyanju , the stevedoring expert is an unsung hero in port operations, hence the need to appreciate Ubogu for the support and humanity to the MWUN and the labour work force.
Speaking further, Adeyanju admonished other stevedoring contractors in Nigeria to emulate the good deeds of the Micura boss who is passionate about the welfare of dockworkers
His words, “I want to thank my brother and friend,Chief Orobosa Michael Ubogu who has been kind to the system and to me.. He has been a wonderful dedicated ,committed friend and philanthropist . It’s not about giving money but about sitting down and connect with the person you are supporting. It’s about loyalty and assertiveness in all you do . So I want to thank him because he is a human being .
“If we have ten Micura in Nigeria port operations today, I will assure you that no dockworkers or NPA staff will suffer. Ubogu has been supporting me for the past twenty five years , he is a nice guy and may God continue to bless him. And anywhere we are we will continue to pray for him.
“He is not the only employer of labour we have in the nation’s maritime industry and when we are talking about stevedoring company in Nigeria today, I think he’s the best we have around who believe in the welfare of workers .
“I must say that he complemented our success story together with his own , because this is somebody that negotiated welfares of workers on behalf of the union with employers.
“Ubogu was also able to give workers revolving loans when necessary . Now my question is how many stevedoring contractors can do what Michael Ubogu is doing today?
Adeyanju added that Micura Services Limited believed so much in stevedoring activities in Nigeria adding that dockers deserve the best in terms of wages and salaries.
“I must say that Michael Ubogu is part of my success story.”, the union leader maintained.
