The Women in shipping branch of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) on Thursday visited the female custodial facility of the Nigeria Correctional Service at Kirikiri area in Lagos as part of its Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) to the less privileged in the society.
The Women who were in their numbers led by the Chairperson, Comrade Rosemary Otukpere, supplied items like food stuffs, detergents, toiletries, among others to the inmates.
Recall that the group in 2022, visited the elderly home in Jakande area, Cheshire home in Mushin with food supplies, toiletries and other items for their upkeep.
The items supplied to the inmates include; Sanitary pads, tissue papers, bags of rice and garri, noodles, disinfectants, assorted detergents, cartons of spaghetti, salt, sugar, buckets, cups, seasonings, soaps, among others.
Speaking shortly after the visit to the Kirikiri female custodial centre, Chairperson of the Women in Shipping, Comrade Rosemary Otikpere, lamented that the men counterparts are not giving them the necessary supports to be able to reach out as they would have loved to.
She used the opportunity to appeal to the men in shipping to rise to the occasion and lend helping hands to the women to advance the gestures.
She promised that the women wing would continue the fest of supporting the needy saying they are passionate to providing humanitarian services.
Otikpere expressed satisfaction over the condition of the female inmates at the facility, saying that the members are impressed with the care and well-being of the inmates at the facility.
Speaking further, she promised to engage the management of her organisation to help donate computers for the inmates saying some of them are students who are in need of such materials.
The effusive women leader explained that the group has not enough might to reach out generously to the society but she said she would seek the assistance of other members of the branch.
She also disclosed plans to engage the President General of MWUN Comrade Adewale Adeyanju on the need to also collaboration with the Prince Adewale Adeyanju Foundation (PAAF) in its quest to provide humanitarian services to the needy.
