Workplace ethics: SSASCGOC Maritime, MWUN task workers on productivity; urge support for management

Apparently determined to enlighten and educate members on workplace ethics, the Senior Staff Association of Statutory Corporations and Government-Owned Companies (SSASCGOC) Maritime Branch and Maritime Workers Union of Nigeria (MWUN) have called on workers of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) to embrace the spirit of dedication and commitment to job productivity.
Leaders of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) affiliates have urged NPA staff to work closely with management and service providers to ensure sustainable port operations.
Led by Comrade Akinola Bodunde, the President of SSASCGOC Maritime Branch, toured all seaports in Nigeria to sensitize workers on job ethics.
Addressing a large gathering at the Lagos Port Complex (LPC) on Tuesday, Bodunde said the association had already visited Warri, Port Harcourt, Calabar and Onne ports before proceeding to Apapa Port as part of the sensitization drive.
He added that the tour would continue on September 2, 2026, at the Tin Can Island Port Complex and would conclude at the NPA headquarters in Marine Lagos.
Bodunde said the NPA management and the union would continue to be partners in progress as part of efforts to create an enabling environment for workers.
The union leader urged members to support NPA management in meeting the federal government’s mandates.
He added that the union would continue to prioritise workers’ welfare but stressed that job description must be done meticulously and that every hand must be on deck to uplift the NPA and port operations.
He warned that “to whom much is given, much is expected,” emphasizing the need for workers to support NPA management.
The President reiterated that “The main purpose of the sensitization is to encourage workers to support management to increase productivity,”
“Management has done a lot for the workers; therefore it is the duty of the workers to show commitment and dedication. We need to pay back by committing ourselves to the system through effective and efficient service.”
He also appealed to the workers to be punctual, obey their superiors, and observe proper operational procedures.
Also speaking, Comrade Bamidele Ajayi, President of the NPA Branch of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), urged members to prioritise their mental health and present themselves well at work.
Ajayi called for regular health checks, saying that “A healthy man is a wealthy man.”
