The academic milestone marks a significant achievement for the maritime administrator.

The event was the university’s 8th combined convocation ceremony, which also commemorated the institution’s 25th anniversary. It was graced by dignitaries from within and outside Nigeria.

Speaking with The Shipper on what the convocation meant to him, Dr. Akutah explained that the ceremony marked the culmination of a journey that began seven years ago. Although he had completed his degree requirements in 2024, he had to wait for the convocation day.

He added that his pursuit of a PhD was inspired by his desire to teach and impart meaningful knowledge.

“As a teacher of International Criminal Law, I have trained lawyers, prosecutors, and judges in different jurisdictions around the world. Pursuing a PhD is just a way forward for me towards the journey of what I love,” he said.

Akutah further emphasized the necessity of continuous education. “It is very important for everyone because as long as you don’tstop living, you have to continue learning. So, for someone who wants to prepare himself for tomorrow’s leadership, you have to continue to educate yourself,” he added.
