Bunu slams selfish leaders, vows to block candidates without workers interest at district, unit levels 

...as Bolaji promises never to disappoint dockworkers

Comrade Francis Bunu Abi, the President General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN) has said that enough is enough to the era when elected executives at district and unit levels to curry all the benefits accrued to the district’s and units.

 

Speaking at the inauguration of the newly elected officers of the dockworkers branch at its secretariat in Lagos on Monday.

 

He maintained that only sincere aspirants and magnanimous candidates will be given the opportunity to serve at the levels.

 

“The branch elections is gone and the next is district and I can see people jumping around holding meetings.

 

“If you cannot work for dockworkers and be sincere to the system, we will not give you the office.

 

“We will not use dockworkers to do experiment again, the time has gone. The units and districts

 

“We are saying enough is enough that you want to become a district chairman and put all the money in your pocket, God will punish you.

 

“It is enough that individual are rich and the union is poor what of those other executives and the members?

 

“If you don’t have the heart of the workers, we will screen you out.

“Anyone that respects the executives, respects my office. Lett us do things as they should be.

 

“Be sincere and let the common man among you benefit from the largesse.”

 

While speaking, he appreciated the branch, the former executives led by Comrade Tajudeen Ohize who is now a Vice President General of the union.

 

He thanked them for their maturity during the conduct of the branch election.

 

Speaking after receiving the baton, Comrade Bolaji Agboola,, President of the branch promised to represent all workers’ interest

 

He added that he would never disappoint the members  saying Workers’ welfare is the welfare of workers

 

“I want to promise everybody that I will not disappoint none. The most important things is our mind is how to work for the workers.”

 

Earlier,, Comrade Funmi Fasan, Deputy President General (DPG) of MWUN expressed joy over the peaceful conduct of the branch election.

 

Fasan who stated that the there was an apppprehension prior to the election, added that the election was highly successful.

 

She thereafter appreciated them for their maturity of the dockworkers during the election period

 

“I feel elated today because before now, we were looking at what would happen but that is gone now. The election was highly successful.

“You all behaved matured during the elections period. I want that love and bond to continue. Do not allow anyone to distract you. Be focused and one that you are.”

 

In his goodwill message, Comrade Abubakar Bello, a DPG said that there was no longer divisions among the workers even as he called for harmony among the executives.

 

“Nobody expected that Bolaji would become president. We went round and came back to him and that is God’s choice.

 

“The elections have gone and there is a new era, no more division and factions.

 

“Let’s work together peacefully because it is one of the most important branches we have out of the four.”
