The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, is set to receive the prestigious Marine and Blue Economy Pacesetter Award at the forthcoming Maritime Industry Merit Awards (MIMA) 2025. This highly coveted award is a testament to Minister Oyetola’s visionary leadership and tireless efforts to develop the marine and blue economy sector in Nigeria.

Under Minister Oyetola’s stewardship, the marine and blue economy sector has witnessed significant transformations. His innovative approach has led to improved maritime security and safety, enhanced port operational efficiency, and the promotion of indigenous shipping development. Furthermore, his leadership has been instrumental in securing Nigeria’s return to Category C of the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Council.

 

The Maritime Industry Merit Awards (MIMA) is a premier recognition platform that celebrates outstanding achievements and contributions to the maritime industry. The awards ceremony, scheduled to take place on April 15, 2025, at the Oriental Hotel in Lagos, will bring together stakeholders and leaders in the maritime sector to honor Minister Oyetola’s remarkable achievements.

 

Dr. George Akume, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, will chair the awards ceremony, which promises to be a momentous occasion. Other notable awardees include Dr. Pius Akutah, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Shippers’ Council (NSC), who will be celebrated as the 2024 Maritime Man of the Year.
